Chiropractic Treatment Tennis Elbow

December 1st, 2010

Fort Myers tennis elbow also known as Lateral Epicondylitis is the #1 ailment of the upper body.

But tennis elbow is not unique to tennis players only. Tennis elbow is caused by excessive strain in the muscles of the forearm (wrist extensor group) which is commonly seen in tennis players, carpenters, secretaries, manual laborers and many more professions. So one can say that tennis elbow can arise from any activity that calls for repetitive wrist extension, says Dr Brandon Perkins DC. Localized pain in the tendo periosteal junction where the common extensor tendon originates from (outer area of the elbow) is a common complaint in 9 out of 10 cases of tennis elbow. Other symptoms of tennis elbow include radiating pain to the back of the forearm and wrist area; some patients may have this.

The problem with FL tennis elbow is that it takes a long time to heal due to the lack of a tendon sheath. The common extensor origin resembles a muscle more than a tendon, but its blood supply is not adequate and thus, it cannot get nutrition from the fluid that is found within a tendon sheath.

Your Chiropractor at Perkins Chiropractic Center will perform a thorough history and examination including orthopaedic and neurological testing to determine the extent of your tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). After which they will design a therapeutic regimen specifically suited to your case.

Fort Myers Neck Pain Care

November 25th, 2010

Right now, there are about 9 percent of the male population and 12 percent of the female population feeling neck pains. Fort Myers neck pain is present about half as much as lower back pain. Approximately 45% of the working population will have one attack of a stiff neck, and most of those affected will not miss much work with neck pain as they do with back pain. Resulting from increased flexibility, the neck becomes less stable and does not have as much protection. As the parts of the neck become overused, neck pain results.

Oftentimes, neck pain may actually be referring to shoulder pain, and vice versa. Usually when the soft tissues in the neck are injured, neck pain ensues, and can generate pain into the shoulders as well, according to Dr Brandon Perkins DC. These injuries can result from whiplash. Irritated nerves in the neck, from arthritis in the upper spine, can also cause neck pain. Finally, conditions involving the spinal cord, heart and lungs can cause neck pain and shoulder pain.

Visit your doctor of chiropractic FL to find the root cause of your neck pain; the chiropractor will evaluate the structure of your neck. As part of the diagnostic exam, the following will also be checked for issues: spinal discs, spinal cord, facet joints, supporting muscles, etc.

Vertigo Dizziness

October 31st, 2010

An illusion of the body moving or your surroundings moving is called vertigo. With vertigo, one senses rotational movement and unidirectional, or one way, movement.

A trivial distinction exists in the understanding of this motion, says Dr Brandon Perkins DC. Objective vertigo is described as the sensation of the environment spinning around the patient whereas in subjective vertigo, it is the patient who feels he is turning around his surroundings.

Dizziness is distinct from vertigo in some aspect. When the patient in FL describes his feelings as a loss of balance, light-headedness or nausea but there is no motion perception, he is describing dizziness.

The following procedures will be applied to you by your Fort Myers Chiropractor: history-taking, comprehensive examination and neurological and orthopaedic tests. These will help him discover the cause of your vertigo and dizziness. Then they will design a unique plan of management for your special case.

Fort Myers Shin Splints Care

October 16th, 2010

In shin splints, vague symptoms such as pain of the lower leg, in the front or back, are experienced by the patient visiting Perkins Chiropractic Center. Shin splints are themselves vague by description. The causative diseases of shin splints include periostitis, tendonitis, muscle strain and interosseous membrane strain.

There are two general categories of shin splints in Fort Myers: 1. Anterior shin splints – happen when the muscles in the front of the leg which act to absorb shock become weak and overstressed due to continually running or walking on hard grounds. Another cause is wearing shoes that do not have shock absorbers. The force is sent to the shin bone and a shin splint is produced. 2. Posterior shin splints – arise when it is the muscles at the back of the leg that are affected. Their function as ankle stabilizers is compromised when they are strained too much.

When shin splints are present, the pain is most commonly felt at the middle to the lower third of the shin bone. Stress fracture is an essential differential for shin splints, states Dr Brandon Perkins DC. However, x-rays often come out normal in shin splints.

These are the processes your chiropractor, of FL, will undertake to correctly diagnose your shin splints: thorough history and examination, neurological and orthopaedic testing, radiographic studies to determine the severity of the condition. Then they will design a plan of management suitable for your case.

Chiropractic Therapy Muscle Strain

October 2nd, 2010

A damaged particular muscle-tendon section causes muscle strain, or muscle trauma as it is also referred to. When a muscle strain is present, there is a certain extent of harm done to the muscle fibers, the muscle-tendon link, the bony insertion point or the tendon. Based on the clinical picture seen, a muscle strain in Fort Myers can be mild, moderate or severe. Oftentimes, a muscle strain is a result of the involved muscle being subjected to too much stretching. Very often, a muscle strain is referred to as a muscle pull.

Muscle strain is often felt as stiffness, localized pain and a bruised feeling. Oftentimes, a knot appears in the place where this is muscle strain; this is referred to as a tender point, states Dr Brandon Perkins DC. When applying even a little pressure on the tender point in a muscle strain and feeling pain in another area, this is then called a trigger point.

An involuntary contraction of a muscle that develops from painful nerve activation is called a muscle spasm.

A chiropractor will undertake a comprehensive history and examination, and neurological and orthopaedic tests to identify the cause of your condition. Then Perkins Chiropractic Center will develop a specific plan of management tailored to your case.

Foot Injury Chiropractor Therapy

October 1st, 2010

Foot pain is almost always caused by improper footwear and the absence of support. A frequent source of foot pain, says Dr Brandon Perkins DC, is ill-fitting shoes that may give too much pressure or irritation, producing corns and calluses, or aggravation at the first toe (Hallux Valgus). Shoes that are too tight may also cause compression of the metatarsals (long bones in the foot) or injury to the toenails. If the foot is too mobile, then lack of support may cause plantar fasciitis (very common cause of foot pain). Another widespread source of foot pain in FL are ankle sprains. Plantar flexion with inversion is the most commonly-seen type of ankle spain.

Treatment for foot pain does not stop at treating the acute injury but also aims to prevent future mishaps from occurring. Treatment for foot pain at Perkins Chiropractic Center often comprises an establishment of the needs of the particular activity along with a rehabilitaion program that must be strictly followed.

Your Fort Myers chiropractor will manage your foot pain by performing a comprehensive history and examination, as well as orthopaedic and neurological testing and diagnostic xrays to discover the cause. Then they will develop a specific plan of management tailored to your case.
